“Eight hours earlier”

I guess every group of friends has that one member who is always late for everything. I am that person in my group, and I am not proud of it.

Even when travelling, I always arrive at the airport 10 minutes before take-off, and tell you what, I NEVER missed a flight that I couldn’t rebook with only a 60% increase in price. But anyway.

There is one thing that kept my case from horribly deteriorating! As a Muslim I am required to pray five times a day at specific times, missing one is a sin in Islam.

I wasn’t always eager to do the prayer at the correct time, I felt like performing it was enough, even when I did it at the last moment.

Until one day I was going with friends to a soccer match, and to my shock and awe, they wanted to be there 6 to 8 hours before the match.

I asked myself, why is the match more important to these people than God’s order is to me? They didn’t wanna risk missing their seat even though they had the tickets, they didn’t want to risk a riot breaking out and them not being able to get in even though the possibility of that happening was next to none.

I started praying in time from that day, and since then, I never missed a flight: I became very appreciative of every second.

My point is that you might not immediately see the benefit of the structure that Allah wanted for your life, but not following it makes life harder and messier. Allah created the human “hardware” for some reason, we still think that we can create a better “software” than the official one that came from the creator himself? That software is called “Islam” and you are one google search away from learning everything about it.
