Officially reopened in 2017 after extensive redevelopment, the Khalifa International (or National) Stadium, originally opened its doors in 1976, making it the oldest stadium in Qatar and the first FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ tournament venue. The stadium has held major tournaments such as the Asian Games in 2006, the AFC Asian Cup in 2007, as well as the Arabian Gulf Cup in 1976, 1992, 2004 and 2019.
